There is an ongoing investigation by French police in relation to forged works of original works by Jean Prouvé. A man was arrested in January this year and is charged with the counterfeiting of intellectual property and faces other forgery charges.

This is a case where art dealers from 3 different galleries brought a joint complaint in May 2009 to the French Central Office for the Fight Against the Trafficking of Cultural Goods (OCBC) after they had bought the fake furniture at auction at Artcurial in April 2008. The objects had past the experts there. However the dealers did their own tests when they suspected the furniture they had come across was not genuine.

This is not the first case of sales or attempted sales of forgeries of original works by Prouvé , there were several arrests in 2008 in Paris for a similiar issue.
